Bisbee Douglas International Airport

The Douglas Regional Economic Development Corporation has been engaged to assess the current operational and economic conditions at Bisbee Douglas International Airport.

The Douglas Industrial Development Authority has express interest in establishing a joint partnership with Cochise County in pursue of economic development opportunities for BDI.

Working with our regional partner, the Douglas Regional Economic Development Corporation the IDA has determined that with the appropriate inter-governmental agreements and goals set forth by all major stakeholders, BDI id poised to become a major economic engine for Southeast Cochise County ”

The Douglas REDC believes the Bisbee Douglas International Airport can serve as an ideal location from which testing, evaluation, deployment and commercialization of border management technologies i.e. sensors, lasers, unman aerial vehicles (UAV), etc.

Securing borders is a worldwide concern representing a growing market with multiple applications for combating illegal activity. Sophisticated technology can also facilitate more efficient border crossing boosting trade.

Specific ‘niche’ markets that BDI could serve;

  • Regional Business Aviation: Serving business jets and turboprops, with full precision instrument approach capabilities and with service and accommodations for arriving pilots and passengers

  • Auxiliary General Aviation/Military Training Center: Provide a training site to Cochise College, Air Force, Air National Guard, U.S. Homeland Security

  • Cochise County Airport Industrial Park: Provide improved development sites for new industry and interface between commercial truck and air freight transit.
